MIDNIGHT CITY

NFT CARDS (PAUSED)

In 2021, I embarked on a solo project called Midnight City, diving into the world of NFTs with the help of two friends, Osagie and Heather. Together, we created a collection of 1,000 unique character cards, each tied to an evolving story and narrative that extended into real-world interactive activities. I took the lead in building the project, handling the marketing, and designing and illustrating all of the artwork. Over the course of the project, I drew more than 650 unique traits—everything from hair and eyebrows to clothing—and generated over 50,000 distinct images. It was a complex challenge, requiring careful problem-solving to ensure each image was both unique and seamless.

As our hard work began to pay off, and the project grew into a website with a small but dedicated following, the NFT space started to change. NFTs became increasingly associated with scams and money grabs, making it difficult to even mention the term without facing skepticism. Despite spending countless nights tirelessly promoting the project, I eventually reached a point of burnout and had to step back.

This led to a two-year hiatus from drawing, a period that was difficult but necessary. Despite this, I still hold a deep appreciation for the illustrations we created, and I hope that one day, Midnight City can be revived and brought back to life.
